About this Ride
Where: SH 5, Napier-Taupo Road, Taharua Rd, Wainui Forest.
Directions: The event is located off Taharua Rd, SH 5 (Napier/Taupo Rd), about 25 minutes from Taupo. Arrows on SH 5 corner into Taharua then just past the one lane bridge, turn right into the forest (Homestead Road).
Classes: Suitable for all abilities 2 wheels. NO quads or DOGS; this is a forestry rule.
Terrain: The unique Taupo pumice makes it rideable in all weather; the rain improves the track. Over 100kms of rolling hills, winding gullys, cranking firebreaks and jumps. Millions of berms and mega traction. Lots of variety. All main trails freshly groomed after each event. Optional expert-only trails, plus purpose-built trails for novice riders and kids.
Weekend trail information (tracks are changed during the year; check at sign on for updates): KTM Trail 31km, fluro arrows, has 7 optional breakout tracks graded 2-6. HUSQVARNA Trail 25km, fluro arrows, has 4 optional breakout tracks graded 2-6. GASGAS Trail 15km, fluro arrows, has 7 optional breakout tracks graded 2-6. MOTOREX Trail 10km, fluro arrows, has 1 optional breakout track graded 2. Kids forest track 0.6km, fluro arrows, for kids on small bikes; no full size bikes unless looking after kids. Novice kids track 0.4km, fluro arrows, for kids learning to ride; no fast kids please. Little Wittle track 0.1km, fluro arrows, small and flat, perfect for novice kids. MUD Track 3km, fluro arrows, can get muddy but fun, by the kids tracks.
Starts at between 9:00-9:30am. Enter on the day by cash. No Eftpos.
Ride fees Saturday: Adult $70, Child (under 11) $40, Youth 11-15 $50, Family 2+3 $200.
Ride fees Weekend: Adult $100, Child (under 11) $50, Youth 11-15 $60, Family 2+3 $300.
Ride fees Sunday: Adult $60, Child (under 11) $20, Youth 11-15 $30, Family 2+3 $140.
Families: Mum, Dad (parents) and their children, up to 3 kids max, 15 years or younger.
Fire extinguishers are compulsory for adult riders and can be bought on the day for $30 (this could go depending on supply). Return system available with $20 back.
Food: Awesome coffee, great food and cold drinks for sale. New for 2024 Savanahs Food Cart.
Demo bikes and hire bikes at each event. Book hire bikes early. Bike service with Huka Honda.
Motorcycle and accessories: display of motorcycles from AFC, plus some of the latest riding gear and outlet store deals.
Accommodation: Lots of options in Taupo; pays to book early. Camping in a paddock near the ride. This is just a bare paddock and there is only 1 Portaloo. No charge at this stage. This paddock is opened Friday afternoon. Text Dee. No dogs, fires or riding around the paddock. Location is on the corner of the forest entrance road. This is a working forest so absolutely no entry to the forest before the event on Saturday and Sunday.
